Today I like to turn one into fun tray that I can display toilettes in my bathroom. Are your ready to join me in this crafting process ? Are you ready for some fun DIY project?I so want to make something MacKenzie Childs inspired. You know i love me some patterns… some details. Check some of my MaKenzie Childs inspired projects HERE Have you work with resin before? It is super fun process ! I am so ready for budget friendly home decor diy! Let’s go to work and learn together how to pour resin
Supplies needed
Let’s begin to transform our pizza pan tray!
Well I just realized that it actually like pizza pan tray ..lol that had Christmas snow flakes all over. It is ok process is the same. Either you are using Dollar Tree pizza pan or any other seasonal aluminum pan make sure to paint background. I used chalk paint from Waverly. As you can see two coats are needed to make solid coverage. Make sure to dry each coat really well.
As all is drying make sure to prep your game plan. My goal was to just make is super clean design in the center surrounded with some kind of pattern fro MacKenzie Childs line.
I decided to use pieces of my Walmart lavender pick just because it was one of smaller flowers that would fit depth of my tray rim. I so think it is enough for what I have in mind. My goal was to make pattern stand out
Designing portion is done with, so now it is time to have fun with some resin that I would love to pour over my pizza pan future tray. Have you ever pour resin? it is super fun process I can assure you that. Resin comes in 2 parts that need to be equally combined. What a great resin tray is going to be !
Preparation
I like to take my disposable plastic containers that I save for storage in my crafting area to mix both parts. Just because my tray is on the bigger side I decided to pour my epoxy in stages so I am going to use my small plastic containers from Dollar Tree as measurements of each part that I will combine into one. Make sure to stir for at least 3 min both parts in the bigger container to make sure all will set properly. You are going to have lots of bubbles but all is good. We will take care of that later.
Time to pour your epoxy resin on our tray!
Take your time as you pour your epoxy resin mix. In my case I decided to start my resin pour first over my floral design to make sure all will be in place
It seams that my first coat of resin went smooth so it is time to eliminate some bubbles. All you need to do is lightly go over with heat gun or simply hair dryer that is set on low temp. Bubbles disappear nicely. I am super glad that I decided to pour my tray in layers.
Tips and tricks
How cool is that !! Wow… Now it is time for all to dry and let me tell you it is not fast but it is so worthy! stand your project on the level surface someplace on the side where there is not traffic because you don’t want nothing to land on it as epoxy resin is drying. It takes 24h to completely dry. You can just admire your project from the side. It took me 2 pours for this tray to be completed and it is only because pieces of my lavender picks were still showing on top.
Let’s add some MacKenzie Childs inspired stripes with bit of gold
It seams my tray is all nice and dry so i decided to mark with pencil my tray rim and make some black and white stripes that are highlighted with some of my favorite Glorious Gold from DecoArt . Every time this color is out I can stop to think what I can add to more. I decided to add some mini legs to the bottom to have some more gold but of course it is all up to you.
So love that rustic yet elegant look on how my MacKenzie Childs inspired resin pizza pan tray. What a budget friendly home decor diy
