How to Decoupage on a Curved Surface (Patriotic Bird DIY Using Napkins)
I actually asked my audience if I should go classic blue and white… and most of them said yes 💙But with the holiday coming up, I couldn’t resist going patriotic on this one first 🇺🇸This little bird turned out even better than I expected — and honestly, the napkin did most of the work for me.If you’ve ever struggled with decoupage on a curved surface, this is a fun and forgiving project to try.

✂️ HOW TO DECOUPAGE ON A CURVED SURFACE
1. Separate the napkin layers
Use only the top printed layer.
2. Work in sections
Don’t try to cover the whole piece at once — curved surfaces are easier when you go slowly.
Use a soft brush and a light hand so you don’t tear the napkin.
3. Lightly apply your adhesive
4. Let the napkin naturally wrinkle
This actually adds texture and makes the piece look more finished.
5. Blend the edges
Tearing the napkin instead of cutting helps everything blend into the surface.
6. Wrap around curves slowly
Take your time around wings and rounded areas — small adjustments make a big difference.
7. Add final details
I used a gold marker at the end just to bring out some of the details ✨

💡 TIPS FOR SUCCESS
- Don’t aim for perfect — texture looks better
- Work slowly around curves
- Let the napkin guide your design
- Keep your brush strokes gentle
