Cleaning Hacks Every Crafter Should Know
Crafting is fun… but cleaning up afterward? That’s a whole different hobby. 😂 Between glitter explosions, dried Mod Podge, paint water, hot glue strings, and mystery sticky spots on the table, sometimes the cleanup feels bigger than the project itself.Over the years, I’ve learned little cleaning tricks that make crafting so much easier — and honestly save a lot of supplies from ending up in the trash. These cleaning hacks for crafters are simple, practical and perfect for keeping craft room less stressful
These are simple, real-life crafting cleanup hacks that actually help.
Brush & Paint Cleanup Hacks

1. Don’t Let Paint Dry on Brushes
The fastest way to ruin a brush is letting paint or Mod Podge dry near the ferrule (the metal part).
Keep:
- a water cup nearby,
- rinse often,
- and wash brushes before walking away “for just a minute.” 😂
We all know how that goes.
2. Rubbing Alcohol Removes Sticky Build-Up
Rubbing alcohol helps clean:
- dried acrylic paint,
- sticky Mod Podge,
- glue residue,
- and gummy handles.
I use a little on paper towel or dip only the bristles briefly.
Always wash afterward with soap and water.
3. Nail Polish Remover for Emergency Brush Rescue
Acetone can help rescue badly hardened brushes, but it’s strong.
Best used only for:
- heavily dried paint,
- stubborn glue,
- or brushes already close to retirement.
4. Hair Conditioner Softens Bristles
After cleaning stiff brushes:
- add a tiny drop of conditioner,
- reshape the brush,
- and let it dry flat.
It really helps soften bristles again.
Glitter & Hot Glue Cleanup
5. Dryer Sheets Pick Up Glitter Fast
Dryer sheets are AMAZING for:
- glitter,
- tiny fibers,
- and static craft messes.
Honestly one swipe can save your sanity.
6. Baby Wipes Deserve an Award
Baby wipes clean:
- hands,
- paint bottles,
- fingerprints,
- tables,
- glue guns,
- and random mystery craft messes.
Every craft room needs them.
7. Hair Dryer or Heat Gun Removes Hot Glue Strings
Use warm air on low heat and those annoying glue spiderwebs disappear quickly.
8. Lint Rollers Clean Glitter from Clothes
Especially after crafting with:
- faux snow,
- glitter,
- flocking,
- or tiny paper pieces.
Scissors & Tool Cleaning Hacks
9. Sharpen Scissors with Aluminum Foil

Fold aluminum foil several times and cut through it repeatedly.
This helps:
- remove sticky residue,
- lightly sharpen blades,
- and improve cutting.
10. Wax Paper Helps Sticky Scissors Glide Again
Cutting wax paper after gluey projects helps smooth blades and reduce sticking.
11. Toothpicks Clean Tiny Spaces
Perfect for:
- dried glue nozzles,
- resin edges,
- paint bottle tips,
- and small detailed areas.
Table & Workspace Cleanup
12. Plastic Tablecloths Save Tables
Cheap plastic tablecloths are one of my favorite crafting tricks.
Easy cleanup for:
- paint,
- Mod Podge,
- glitter,
- resin,
- and hot glue drips.
13. Old Gift Cards Scrape Dried Paint Easily
Before throwing old cards away, save them for:
- scraping glue,
- lifting dried paint,
- and cleaning craft mats.
14. Baking Soda Helps Remove Paint Smells
A small bowl nearby can help absorb strong paint or glue odors while crafting indoors.
15. Keep a “Craft Cleanup Basket”
Mine usually has:
- baby wipes,
- paper towels,
- dryer sheets,
- toothpicks,
- alcohol wipes,
- and old rags.
It saves SO much running back and forth.

Organization Cleanup Tips
16. Muffin Tins Hold Tiny Messy Supplies
Perfect for:
- beads,
- glitter,
- sequins,
- buttons,
- and embellishments.
Less rolling across the floor. 😂
17. Coffee Filters Help Clean Glitter
Use them to funnel leftover glitter back into containers without creating a second disaster.
18. Keep “Mess Brushes”
Old damaged brushes are perfect for:
- glue,
- texture paste,
- wax,
- crackle,
- and dry brushing.
No stress if they get ruined.
19. Fine Sandpaper Cleans Small Mistakes
Perfect for:
– So
- glue drips,
- rough paint,
- dried bumps,
- and little crafting accidents.
20. Don’t Wait Until the End to Clean
This one hurts because I still do it wrong sometimes. 😂
Cleaning small messes while crafting:
- saves brushes,
- prevents dried glue,
- and makes finishing projects way less overwhelming.
Craft rooms are rarely spotless.
There’s usually:
- glitter somewhere unexpected,
- a brush soaking too long,
- and at least one sticky pair of scissors hiding on the table.
But honestly?
That messy creative energy is part of what makes crafting feel alive.
And sometimes the best crafting hack isn’t perfection…
It’s simply knowing how to clean up the chaos a little easier. 😊
