Chunky Yarn Accent Pillow DIY
Have you ever worked with chunky yarn? It is such a rewarding process … Chunky yarn projects are just perfect for the beginner knitter…. all comes together really quick. Fruits of your labor are almost instantly visible. I learned how to knit back in my teen years. There are no fancy seams or confusing patterns and it really does come together in under 15 minutes. My mom loved to knit so she thought me how to make stitch or two. I am not a perfect knitter but love to make things for my family and friends. My local craft store had chunky yarn on sale so I decided to buy some and make some accent pillows.
There’s A LOT to love about giant yarn. It’s super cozy, it knits up really (like really, really) fast, and it has to-die-for texture. There are so many kinds of chunky yarn out there. I am going to use less chunky yarn but priced much better.

So let’s begin
Tie a slip knot. To do this, simply twist the yarn to make a small loop, reach through the loop to grab the yarn, pull through, and snug down to create a secure loop
Now your slip knot is your first cast-on stitch.
you’ll need to cast on 20 additional small stitches to create a chain
When you chain is done start to loop you yarn through each stitch in the chain
Make sure your row of cast-on stitches aren’t twisted!
Continue those steps till you reach your pillow length…. in my case it was a bit longer then 12 inches. Now we need to work on closing our stitches. When you’re ready, cut your yarn (leave plenty of length!), pass the end of your yarn through your stitches and gently pull your work closed.
When you loop them all on running yarn it is time to pull tight and make a knot. Repeat that process for both ends of your pillow.
It is time to fill our pillow. I used a Polly-filler that is available at any craft store or on line
I like to decorate my pillow a bit more. I am going to make a simple tassels that will be secured at the ends of pillow
Finally, take the piece of chunky yarn and loop it through the final stitches and close all up. Pull them tightly closed and tie a secure double knot.
and our chunky yarn pillow is all done! It is not perfect but it is a first one and I am positive there will be more to come with different thickness of yarn. Time to look for yarn sale in a local craft stores!
