Vintage Book Page Birdcage DIY

There’s something magical about turning old book pages into beautiful decor pieces full of charm and character. This vintage-inspired folded book birdcage is one of those projects that looks intricate at first glance, but once you begin folding the pages, it becomes wonderfully repetitive and relaxing.

I originally made this birdcage years ago using an old book, delicate lace, and handmade book page roses. Even now, it still feels timeless to me. I love how imperfect and soft it looks — almost like something you’d discover hanging in a cozy cottage or tucked inside an old antique shop.

The best part? No two birdcages ever turn out exactly the same.

Supplies Needed to Make Book Page Birdcage

  • Book of any size but ideally with at least 400 pages to make fuller birdcage
  • Hot glue or craft glue
  • Lace trim
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Handmade book page roses
  • Optional: pearls, ivy, fabric scraps, or vintage embellishments

Trim can be found in my Fav Bling folder on Amazon Store Front HERE

How To Fold The Pages

The folding process is actually much easier than it looks. Remove covers from your book since they are not needed for this project

For each page:

  1. Fold the top corner inward toward the center.
  2. Fold that edge inward one more time to create a slimmer fold.
  3. Fold the bottom flap upward so it lays flat.
  4. Repeat the same folds throughout the entire book.

As more pages are folded, the book naturally begins forming its birdcage shape.

it really goes super quick to fold of those pages

Don’t worry about making every fold perfect. Old books forgive mistakes beautifully, and those tiny imperfections are what give this project its handmade charm.

Decorating The Birdcage

Once all the pages are folded its time to glue first page with last one and decorate … You sure like to accent bottom and right at the bottom of slope . roof line but again it is up to you

  • Add lace around the center and bottom edges.
  • Create a small loop handle using lace, twine, or ribbon.
  • Glue on your handmade book page roses.
  • Tuck in a little ivy or soft greenery for a romantic cottage feel.

I love decorating mine with loose imperfect flowers because they soften all the structured folds and make the birdcage feel whimsical and feminine.

Projects like this remind me that beautiful things don’t have to come from expensive supplies. Sometimes all you need is an old book, a little imagination, and the willingness to create something imperfect and meaningful.

Maybe that’s why I love book page crafts so much…

I think my mind is made out of old book pages. 🤍
