I so love to make trays… Few years back I made a tiered tray all on a budget with what I had on hand . See details HERE
Supplies needed
- tray
- chalk paint
- sanding block
- wallpaper rectangle
So found several trays few days ago as I was thrifting . They didn’t look too good .. Lots of dirt on them but it was a solid wood so I knew they need a good wash
As I was cleaning them well I figured that they must of being a part of roll out mechanism in a kitchen cabinet. I so love those !!! Super useful trays but I guess they were not needed anymore.
I am on the mission to give them a new look!
There are so many things you can on them and make them useful again. Little paint , maybe stencils or napkin decoupage would transfer them in no time !
As I was going through my stash I remembered that I had some wallpaper tiles that I picked up at Dollar Tree so I was praying they will be perfect size without much work
How cool are those !! Love both of them so much! Have you seen those at your Dollar Tree yet ?
It is a wallpaper and it is washable so no Mod Podge or any other glue needed. Directions states that you will need to leave this wall paper alone for 8 hours after application. Super excited to make this stylish tray upcycle.
So love good trash to treasure diy’s . This one especially is so easy. I have not applied wall paper but hey there has to be always a first time.
To complement my print i decided to paint its frame dark navy color with my chalk paint. Love how durable chalk paint is! My favorite one is spright from Home Depot. I can see some are available on Amazon HERE

As my paint is drying it is time to cut my rectangular wall paper to fit a base of tray.
It seams all is fitting perfectly ! Super excited that I had to only cut a bit out of a length Thrift store tray makeover is looking awesome !
Instructions on the back of it were nice and clear. I just had a hard time finding layers …lol until i noticed that line tha says crack and peel
In order to avoid bubbles and wrinkles I decided to only peel little part of backing paper , place on my tray and remove slowly and use my big popsicle stick to push bubbles out
Little bit of distressing with my sanding block on the edges , application of clear wax to wood portion and my tray upcycle is complete !
How stylish is my tray now ? Love everything about it. Thrift store tray makeover was so fun
