How to Make a Paper Towel Rose – Easy DIY Paper Flower

I still cannot believe this beautiful rose started with a simple paper towel! This easy paper towel rose is one of those crafts that looks much more complicated than it actually is. With a little shaping, color, and hot glue, you can turn an everyday household item into a gorgeous handmade flower.

What I love most is how many ways you can use it. Add your paper towel roses to a wreath, tuck one onto a wrapped gift, decorate a book stack, use them in a centerpiece, or create seasonal home decor.

Supplies

  • Paper towels
  • Marker, ink, or paint for adding color
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

How to Make a Paper Towel Rose

Start by preparing your paper towel and adding a little color around the edges. You do not need to make it perfect — the uneven color actually helps create that beautiful natural look once the rose is assembled.

Begin forming the center of the rose by rolling and shaping the first section fairly tightly. As you continue working outward, loosen the folds and allow the paper towel to form larger petals.

Keep turning the rose as you work so the petals develop all the way around instead of stacking on only one side.

Once you are happy with the shape, secure the bottom with hot glue. Then gently pull, curl, and adjust individual petals until your rose has the fullness you like.

That is it! One simple paper towel turned into a beautiful handmade rose.

You could also completely change the look by using different colors. Soft blush is beautiful for romantic decor, while creams and browns would be gorgeous for fall, and white or pale gold could work beautifully for Christmas.
