Patriotic Rustic Wall Decor DIY
You know I love to craft on the budget out of every day objects. Plastic spoons are my recent obsession .. Trying to see what I can possibly make out of them. I have made flowers , bees and butterflies but today I like to share fun rustic patriotic DIY I made out of plastic spoons. Have you ever crafted with plastic spoons? They are so much fun! Who is ready for easy craft with plastic spoons?
Supplies needed to make rustic flower flag
- plastic spoons
- hot glue
- chalk paint
- acrylic paint
- flat surface
- embellishments of your choice
How to make a flower out of plastic spoons
You could go with plastics spoons all the way but if you like me by any chance have Dollar Tree candle stand like you see below you may want to give yourself a head start.
But if you don’t grab a piece of cardboard and start your layers wide. I would suggest to cut 3×3 square and start from installing your spoons on the edges .
In my case I am going to utilize my candle stand. Just because I like to add some layers to my project I need to remove circle that holds tea candle. I wasn’t thinking it will be a difficult thing to do but I was wrong . I thought lifting all up with knife will do but it didn’t
There was no other way then pound it flat with my meat tenderizer to make room for more plastic spoons layers to make my flower full.
As you can see all worked beautifully and it was ready to go. Decided to paint my semi flower with chalk paint before adding layers of plastic spoons.
As my flowers dries completely before I add more layers it was time to prep my surface. My goal here was to decoupage some book pages on my surface . If you never decoupaged before check my blog post HERE for some fun techniques. To make things even more interested I decided to use scraps of my paper to my surface.
As my book pages are now drying it is time to get back to flower. All is dry for sure. As you can see in the picture below I cut my white plastic spoons right at the top of handle. Scoop will be plenty and as you can see it makes awesome petal like
Top row of my flower are plastic spoons. I think nice interlocking slightly overlapped pattern was super close to original. Love how my plastic spoon flower diy is turning already.
of course now it is easier to paint only top row of my plastic spoon patriotic flower diy. As you can see allis dry and its time to mark our next step. As I mentioned earlier I like to turn my plastic spoon flower into American flag diy. Decided to make my line for red and white and dedicate top left corner for blue portion with stars
Just because my background is already white painting red is super easy . I was trying to paint those stripes based on that bird view since my petals are 3D
it took couple of coats of red paint to have all nicely covered but it is doable . Notice that as i was following its 3D look my lines changed too ..lol . It is so normal with me
Little bit of a diamond dust on white parts and stars and I think I was all set with this patriotic plastic spoon flower diy
