Festive Patriotic SunFlower DIY
I don’t know about you but I do have abundance of brown paper bags at home. For some reason my hubby is not bringing reusable bag with him as he goes to grocery store so they are piling up so its time to make some use out of it. I do use them for daily recycle containers but there are still sooo many ! Time to craft with brown paper bags! I have made so many projects with them but because Memorial Day and July 4th is approaching I thought making huge festive red white and blue patriotic flowers decor DIY will be fun to decorate a bit. Supplies needed to make Festive patriotic brown paper bag flower diy
- brown paper flower
- white , red and blue paint
- scissors
- floral wire
- hot glue and glue sticks
How to make brown bag paper flower
First of all it is time to cut your brown paper bag. I like to remove its bottom and just go from there. You will will have a nice sheet of paper ready to work with.
Just because we are making flower I like to start from the center to see how big my petals should be . Since I like to make a bigger flower I decided to use my soup bowl to outline its center.
My goal here is to make whole flower out of one bag. In my mind I wanted to make 2 rows of petals . One bigger one on the outside and a bit smaller closer to its heart.
Cant tell you how many paper petals I cut but I would say cut at least 14 petals for the outer layer. Mine were roughly 3 inches wide and around 5 inches long.
2 different sizes of leaves are painted white so now it is time to make some stripes. I wasn’t looking for perfection .. and you shouldn’t too … All will look really good at the end in the next step.
I just grabbed red acrylic paint and painted 3 or 4 thin stripes on each as you can see below
As you can see my stripes are wonky looking but I love it! I still want for them not to run so decided to add a thin coat of wax to each to protect it in case my flower ends up on my patio at some point
We have red and white so now it is time to work on our blue in this festive patriotic DIY! Grab your 2 circles and paint them blue. You could paint stars but I love me some dot painting so I went for it .
When all dries out make sure to hot glue edges to create a pocket that we can fill to make center of our brown paper patriotic flower more interesting
Time to assemble all!
My pocket is ready and its time to fill it up . I always use what I have on a hand so my paper towels were it.
Grab your floral wire or even a yarn and thread your petals. I like to punch them at least twice to create a bit of a movement in my festive brown paper bag flower
What i like to do is to hot glue each circle of petals to each other and top all of with my blue center
