How I Make my mama Shepherds Pie
1. Make the Meat Filling

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef with onions and grated carrots until the meat is browned and the vegetables are soft.

Add garlic, a little tomato paste, salt, and pepper.

Stir well and let everything cook together for a few minutes.
Add peas at the end and turn off the heat.
2. Assemble the Shepherd’s Pie
Spread the meat mixture evenly into a baking dish.

Spoon the mashed potatoes over the top and gently spread them out.

Don’t worry about making it smooth — the rough texture gives you those golden, crispy spots when it bakes.

3. Bake
Bake at 325°F until hot and bubbling, about 30–40 minutes.
If you want more color on top, you can raise the temperature slightly at the end.

4. Let It Rest (Important!)
Once it comes out of the oven, let it rest for 20–30 minutes before cutting. This helps the layers set so the slices hold together — and it’s worth the wait.

Serving & Storage
Serve warm, straight from the dish Leftovers reheat beautifully Even better the next day
This is one of those meals that tastes like someone cared when they made it.
This shepherd’s pie is simple, comforting, and made the way I cook for my family — no shortcuts, no fuss, just good food.
If you love cozy meals like this, make sure to try it with the skin-on mashed potatoes on top. They make all the difference.
