I am super excited about this project. Are you ready for some Dollar Tree glass plate diy? If you follow me for some time you know I love patterns …. love napkins and most of all love details with gold . This project was on my mind since forever but just never got around to do it. Never sat down to think it through to actually feel that I can do it. Just because it is rainy and cold outside I was on the lookout for some fun project that will keep me happy. This glass plate from Dollar Tree will be the one I am going to work on. Time to have fun with it. Are you ready for some MacKenzie Childs inspired glass plate from Dollar Tree a makeover? There is really not so many things you need to make that fun craft. Let’s do some decoupaging on the glass plate and of course do some painting too.
Supplies needed for this Dollar tree glass plate diy project
- glass plate
- Acrylic paint
- Deco Art Glorious Gold
- napkin that has forgiving pattern
- Mod-Podge
- liquid Gold Leaf
- Dura-Clear Varnish
- paint brushes
Let’s begin our glass plate transformation
Make sure to wipe your plate clean with rubbing alcohol to make painting easier. My inspiration for this Dollar Tree glass plate makeover was no one else then MacKenzie Childs dinnerware . I always drool over their merchandise
Check out some of their items below .. Arent they stunning ?
So you know my plan … I wanted to create some striped border accented with some gold underlines. If you never painted on glass I can re-assure you it is fun! Just because my plan is to be able to use that plate it is easier to do all your work on the back of your plate so you can even put food on it.
Are you ready to learn with me how to paint on the glass?
- I started to make my black lines on the back edge of my glass plate. Don’t worry if they may not be nice and straight. Cleaning glass is super easy even after all is dry.
- make sure that your lines are nice and dry and they have nice solid coverage before cleaning edges up. Check your front side of your plate to make sure all is nice and solid.
- Clean your lines with toothpick or another dry flat brush
My goal was to create black and white stripes so I decide to paint over my black lines with white acrylic paint
Just because I didnt want my pattern to just float without nice detail I decided to paint all around with glorious gold a thin line. If you follow me for some time you know I love to accent with gold so adding additional line of gold right at the base rim of my glass plate wasn’t a tough decision. I am super excited about my MacKenzie Childs inspired glass plate diy transformation
As I stated earlier painting on the glass is super fun and worry free process … all can be cleaned up as it dries. All you need to do is have fun and enjoy this process. I so love me my Dollar Tree diy!
Let’s paint more stripes on our Dollar tree glass plate diy
Just because I wanted to create stripes on the bottom of my plate I decided to make my life easier and use some masking tape to help me that in a process. You can watch VIDEO HERE how I planned all that.
Painting was a breeze now with tape holding my lines. Make sure to paint couple of coats to make sure your lines are nice and solid on the front side of your plate. Not going to lie there was some cleaning to do but it was soo minor. Look how gorgeous those lines are now!
Painting black was so easy since I didnt have to hold my lines. Remember we are painting on the back of the plate that is not going to be visible.
Dollar tree glass plate diy is looking soooo good already! I can see it all coming together.
To make sure my Dollar tree plate has nice solid look I decided to paint entire bottom of it with white paint to be pleasing to an eye. Make sure all is dry before you move onto this step.

Time for napkin glass decoupage
There are so many ways you can go about it … First of all if you decided to make that project you need to pick a napkin that is as I call forgiving .. That means it has a pattern that will nicely blend without showing connection. You could of course cut details out and decoupage them but that will be my next project. As you can see below decoupaging napkin in one big piece would be the easiest way to go about it. If you follow me for some time you know I don’t go that route often.
I decided to use only a portions of that napkin so I can use that napkin on other project. For my bad luck I only had one to work with.
To make my decoupaging easy I decided to cut strips wide enough to cover my rim and begin decoupage on the glass directly of course after I removed all plies
I wasn’t really worried about my edges as I was decoupaging because I wanted to use fire burning techinque to make my project even more exciting
Watch closely how I decoupage with fire HERE
Decoupaging with fire is sooo much fun!
How cool is that plate looking already ! As you can see floral pattern nicely hid all connections.
Time to make nice united look on the back of my plate so i decided to use one of the napkin plies to cover all.
When all will dry completely I will sand and varnish with
Ta Daa!!! super exited how my freshly painted Dollar Tree plate looks on the charger! What a perfect set! I know I will have so much fun bringing color to any settings in my house! Hi Agnes – I tried to leave a review and a note on the jewelry pages and it didn’t take it…….. it still said no reviews so I am leaving the message here. I would like to know the cost of replacing the charm on my Sassy Bracelet. It fell off the second time I wore it and have been trying to get Magda to replace it ever since. If there is something else I need to do let me know but I can’t wear the bracelet without the charm. Thank you. Dolly
