DIY Liberty Bell Wall Decor
Crackled, crafted, and full of patriotic charm. Create a beautiful Liberty Bell-inspired wall decor using a terracotta pot, crackle paint, hot glue, and fabric flowers. This patriotic DIY is perfect for Memorial Day or the 4th of July
What do you get when you mix a humble terracotta pot, a little hot glue magic, and a big dose of red, white, and blue spirit? A Liberty Bell-inspired wall hanging that’s full of texture, meaning, and handmade beauty. This project was born out of my love for aged finishes and creative upcycling—and just in time for patriotic decorating!
Whether you hang it on your porch, entryway, or gallery wall, this little bell has a lot to say about freedom and creativity.

Supplies You’ll Need
Hot glue gun + glue sticks
Crackle medium (or Elmer’s glue trick) Make sure to check post HERE for homemade crackle
White and dark paint (chalk or acrylic)
Rub and buff or metallic wax (gold)
Wood plaque or oval base Black picture frame (optional, for mounting)
Faux lamb’s ear leaves
Torn fabric strips (for flowers)
Jute twine Fabric tag with stamped word (“FREEDOM”)
Beads for bell clapper
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Create the “Bell:
Start with your terracotta pot upside down. Use hot glue to add texture—dot around the rim or swirl along the body like faux weld lines. Let it dry completely.
2. Paint & Crackle:

Apply a base coat of dark paint. Once dry, add your crackle medium or Elmer’s glue, then brush on a light topcoat. Watch the magic happen! Highlight raised glue lines with gold wax or rub and buff. Make sure that you check this blog post for CRACKLE DETAILS HERE
3. Build the Base:
Paint your wooden plaque with a crackled white finish. Glue on your pot (aka bell) and add a wood bead or two as a clapper hanging below.
4. Embellish:
Use faux leaves and hand-torn fabric flowers to surround the top of the bell. Secure with hot glue. Stamp a small fabric strip with “FREEDOM” and tie it with jute.

5. Finish & Display:
Mount the plaque inside a vintage frame or hang it solo. It’s lightweight, eye-catching, and full of old-world Americana vibes.

Creative Tips
Use real chippy wood if you love extra rustic charm. Try a blue-gray pot base for a softer patriotic palette. Add a sawtooth hanger to the back for easy wall mounting.
