Supplies needed to make book page sunflower
- book pages or newspaper
- cardboard or jar lid
- brown paper
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- embellishments
Let’s make a sunflower stem first
I have made so many flowers with stems My usual way to go about it is is to use wire that I cover with fabric, book pages or thread in twine. This time I am going to use brown paper bag from my grocery store to make one. Actually any brown paper will work and look good and super realistic
Grab some vaseline or any oil and crush your paper down. We all know brown paper is at times super thick. I like to work my paper for few minutes and then begin to twist as you see below leaving one end open as you can see . That side will “house” our flower
all you need to do is to create a scoop like thing and glue its sides together.
Let’s make book page sunflower
To being this process you need to cut your cardboard into strips and roll them up into coils as you can see below with a help from hot glue. I like to get at least 4 inch diameter
If you by any chance don’t have cardboard you can use jar lid and decoupage on it a book page. I do that too .. it will work too . Make sure to see those flowers at the bottom of this post
When you are all satisfied with the center you can start making petals . What I like to do is to cut my book page into thirds and fold them in half and pinch bottom of if on the angle to create a spiky petals .
Star hot glueing them to coil edge
my first row is done and now it is time to overlap some in the second row . You could use some kind of edging here but I love how unruly it is
As you glue your book page petals for your sunflower don’t worry about glue fly-aways .. those will be easy removed with some heat from heat gun or hair dryer.
When all is done grab your brown paper stem and insert bottom of your sunflower coil inside
Add a good amount of hot glue and insert your sunflower in. Make sure al cardboard is hidden on the back
How cool is that sunflower! love upcycled book page crafts

As promised here is a sunflower with jar lid as a center .. Don’t you think it looks super cute too? . But there are so many ways you can decorate sunflower center.. I love butterflies so added one just in the center. You could put coffee beans.. rice , sunflower seeds too or wooden beads
love to display my sunflowers in all different vases … even a glass one that show stem now
