When Books Bloom: DIY Folded Page Vase with Dried Flowers

There’s something magical about giving forgotten pages a second life. This project started when I was cleaning up my craft table and noticed a stack of old books that had lost their covers. I couldn’t bring myself to throw them out — the yellowed pages and tiny type were just too beautiful. So instead of letting them sit in a box, I decided to let one bloom. Let’s make book page vase decor

A few of you spotted it in the background of my photo and asked, “How did you make that book flower vase?” So here it is — my simple, no-glue (recyclable!) version that turns a book into a blooming little sculpture.

✂️ What You’ll Need

  • One hardcover or softcover book (150–200 pages works best)
  • A pair of scissors or a craft knife
  • Dried flowers
  • Optional: hot glue gun or clips for extra hold
  • Optional: ribbon, lace, or ink for page edges

📖 How to Make Book Page Flower Vase

Divide your book into three sections.

Open the book and mentally split the pages into three parts. You’ll work mainly with the middle section, which becomes your vase.

Cut the top.

Trim off the top part of those middle pages using scissors or a craft knife. Remove top part .This creates an open space where your flowers will sit later.

Fold the bottom.

Now comes the fun part! Fold each page in the middle section upward toward the spine. You’ll start to see a soft, rounded pattern forming — kind of like a pleated skirt made of words.

Shape — with or without glue.

The folds hold themselves beautifully, but you can add a touch of hot glue along the inner folds if you want it to stay fixed long-term. Personally, I skip the glue — I love being able to unfold or reuse my projects for something new down the road. (Think of it as crafting with a second chance built in!)

Add your flowers.

Tuck in your dried blooms. Hydrangeas, roses, or even small branches work perfectly. The folded pages create a natural “nest” that holds stems in place.

Display and enjoy your book page vase craft

Stand your book upright, open it slightly, or lean it against a vintage shutter or picture frame. It looks like a storybook that decided to grow a garden.

🌿 Tips & Variations

Tea-stain or ink the edges for a vintage, timeworn look. Try smaller paperbacks for mini versions. Change flowers seasonally — dried lavender in summer, pine and berries for winter. Add a ribbon or lace bow around the spine for extra charm.

There’s something so peaceful about creating with what you already have. Each page fold, each petal, feels like a gentle reminder that beauty doesn’t always need to be bought — sometimes, it’s been sitting on your bookshelf all along.

🍂 Seasonal Variation: Fall Book Vase with Mini Pumpkins & Neutrals

This version might just steal your heart for autumn!
Instead of hydrangeas, try filling your folded book vase with soft neutrals and natural textures:
    •    Mini velvet or fabric pumpkins
    •    Sola wood flowers
    •    Pinecones or dried seed pods
    •    Bunny tails, millet, or wheat stems
    •    A little Spanish moss for fullness

The combination of creamy pumpkins, golden accents, and aged book pages creates a cozy, elegant fall centerpiece.
Pro tip: Layer different textures — moss, grain stems, and small pumpkins — for height and balance.
