Let the Dollar Tree vase makeover with molds begin!
Even though I am going to attach a link to my LIVE VIDEO I would like to go over steps here on my blog.
There are acutally two molds that I will be using in this project but one of them that skinny trim could be replaced with beads , twine or simple line made out of hot glue.
I like to use hot glue for all my molds just because i am not good with waiting game if you know what I mean. Hot glue perfectly do its job with molds especially when you are on the time crunch like Facebook LIVE HERE
It takes seconds for all to dry so painting can begin . I like to cover my shapes made out of hot glue molds with some acrylic paint to have nice base.
Molds are ready so it is time to prep spray painted vase. As you can see I had fun with it and sprayed with mix of black and gold just because.
My goal was to divide my vast into 2 working areas in which i would do different technique. I wanted texture for the bottom and crackle for the top. I will link all details for you below
In order to maximize on the texture you do want to dab your texture on your surface. I like to let it dry and go over again to really have all nicely stand out
As texture is drying it is a good idea to begin working with your molds and paint them to your likings. I decided to use typical green and yellow. My Dollar Tree vase makeover is going to look so good very soon
How to crackle with Elmers glue
Molds are ready so it is time now to work on second part of Dollar Tree vase that means let’s do crackle! Did you know you can get beautiful crackle with Elmer’s glue ? Check out blog post below to see all details about that process. I made that beautiful butterfly plaque on the wood. Read more about it HERE .There is a video there too
or watch video on my latest Thrift store makeover where Crackle was achieved with acrylic paint
Molds diy
Check out this crackle here !! How awesome is that ! You must see what else I added to my project to accent that crackle with texture. I am telling you wax is THE KEY ! GILDING WAX IN GOLD IS SUPER SPECIAL! Makes all projects take an awesome turn.
Get your bees HERE
Not going to lie I do like how my Dollar tree mixed media diy turned out but that flower needs a bit more in it to match richness of the rest
I know I will have to sleep on it to see what I can improve to my likings
Slept on it and in the morning idea hit me ! I took my 3 different kind of wax and went to town. Started with dark wax all over my sunflower mold and then neutralized with clear wax . When all dried few strokes of gilding gold wax made huge difference in my eyes
and i think I like it much better now .. wonder what you think about that new look . Let me know in the comments
As you can see this time around I polished my bee off to keep that nice crisp sparkle ! Love it !
