How to Make Knitting Machine Chicken
This project came to life on one of my sleepless nights. Let’s make chicken , shall we? My Mama used to make those chickens out of fabric or paper bags when I was growing up. She made so many different versions that were scattered around dough bowls or tiered trays . Make sure to check some of them in this post below. Just because my circular machine knitting is real I decided to try it to use one to make chicken. Perfect tiered tray or dough bowl accessory. Perfect Spring DIY
HERE is one of them my Mama used to make. I decided to make no-sew version. Super easy project . Another fun tiered tray accessory
This project as many others can be made out of different materials as I stated earlier . Steps are the same but today I would love to share its knitted version on my circular machine Sentro. Just because I was just practicing I decided to use my smaller machine Sentro 22 that you can get HERE
How to knit a chicken on circular machine
Isn’t this chicken cute ? Can’t wait to share how all this came together . it so screams Spring DIY
As I mentioned before I am using Sentro 22 prong Machine but if you have Sentro 48 your chicken will be a bit bigger .. I know I will be using that one next .. My baby Chicken needs mama right …lol
Cast your yarn on .. MAKE 50 ROUNDS and cast off with needle. I used a tapestry needle since it has a nice angle to help me pick all up easier. Got myself a set on Amazon HERE
How to Cast ON/ Cast OFF
Make sure to watch video HERE how to start and finish that step
When you remove your knittings from the machine you will have a long tube with yarn at its ends . It is time pull thread from side you started with all the way tight and then pull slightly other side and insert inside so both ends meet on one side .
It is like making a hat if you are familiar with that
Doesn’t it look like little hat ? Knitted chicken is getting formed. It is our chicken body
Grab your crotchet hook and begin to close but only half way through . I like to make simple crochet stitches that means grab both sides and pull running thread through it . It creates nice chain on the edge
If you are using a fabric you will need to use your thread of course
What I like to do is at the beginning of closing process is to stitch twice in the first three stitches to create a bit of FLAIR to its side. Remember we are making a chicken .
No laughing here … It is time to stuff our knitted chicken so you use what you have… I have plenty knitting scraps of wasted yarn so decided to use that to fill its body
Continue closing your chicken BUT REMEMBER to do last 3 or 4 stitches twice to finish with a flair
Final touches
Time to hide a tail ! What I usually do is to pull it into inside of my chicken and have it lost in stuffing ..lol
and a body of a chicken is almost done !! Now onto cosmetics … some details to make it look like real chicken
Grab your red yarn or any color you like to create a chicken comb. So they I did that was simply playes with half crotchet to start followed by simple crotchet repeated twice in the same stitch and ened with half crotchet. But you do you .. just create a nice bumpy flair as comb is ..lol
To create a nice dent to chicken top thread yarn from the bottom of your chicken to the top and then again back , tie a knot and hide inside on the bottom its tail. Make sure to distribute your Chicken stuffing into tail and head ..form the way you like it and you are done
Thread your dark yarn for eyes and beak and your chicken is almost done .
