Let the MacKenzie Childs bed tray makeover begin!
As you can see tray is made out of wood and actually pretty strong so I decided to paint my entire tray with chalk paint legs included to have a plain slate canvas to work with since I didn’t have a huge plan.
As you can see top of the tray have nice shiplap like groves that of course I will take advantage off . If you follow me for some time you do know that I love MacKenzie Childs Patterns so I decided to paint top of my tray black and white stripes with some check on the edges
To make my work smoother I decided as always to plan all out. I am using my big crafting stick as a template to create my stripes on the sides all around my tray
Time to paint all around
You can for sure check my blog for more MacKenzie Childs inspired projects including some tips on brushes and all tricks I learned painting that pattern. You could definitely use different color palette that fits your decor.
As you can see I am adding a bit of highlights with white and gold paint to bring some depth to my painting
How to emboss with texture paste on the wood
Tray is painted and ready for my stenciling and embossing. How exciting!! Not going to lie I am a bit addicted to it.
Super excited about this part of my project! I have never done it before so I hope that my work with pattern is not going to be destroyed. I decided to use my finger to distribute texture over just a portion of my stencil
As you can see stenciled texture looks awesome but it is not too visible since I used clear paste but that is ok. Let’s quickly sprinkle a bit embossing powder in couple of shaded before paste dries out. It is actually suggested not to cover all . What I love to do is to shake my project and let paste to spread itself out and of course mix too.
Make sure to watch VIDEO at the end of this post to see all live happening. Ideally you want to let all dry but itself for 20 min or so. As you can see my powder is not looking to good but that is ok I promise. All will change if we apply heat from heat gun or dryer and activate it all over. My goal here was to heat my embossing powder on my stencils until it became crusty and design was crisp.
As you can see I am working on the another side so I can emboss some more . At this point I am lost if i love more my stencils or embossing powder. Love embossing with stencils! Cant wait to try more embossing techniques with you all on other surfaces
Wood embossing some more
I decided to use on the other side matt paste so you can see better on the pictures. Repeated the same steps of embossing twice more and my design was looking better and better or at least what I think. Make sure to watch video on how to emboss with texture paste on the wood.
