How to make wood shim like pumpkin
My ingredients are gathered and I am ready to go! I am ready to make my wood pumpkin diy. Love love love fall crafting.
You may think where is a form for my fall pumpkin. I have it ! it is a brown paper bag. You may ask why i chose brown paper as its base. Answer is simple .. it is much easier to place my shims or craft sticks so they look more natural vs poking them into styrofoam one.
Crumble your brown paper and make sure to secure it with twine so all stays together. As you can see I created 4 partitions
My goal was to concentrate on each pumpkin partition separately so I started with 2 shims right at the top and hot glued them in place. It takes a bit for hot glue to cool so you have time to place them as you wish. Second row is just interlocking row ..that means you place your shim or craft sticks right were row above pieces touched.
Let’s make our rows
You may think it will take forever to make one .. and that is not a case . It goes pretty fast. Squart some hot glue and place your wooden pieces and press as you need to make sure that they look like pine cone and don’t stick out
My shim pumpkin seem to be done so it is time to have fun decorating it. Not going to lie loved my fall wood shim diy natural look but I had to keep experimenting and be close to my Home Goods inspiration that was colored.
Absolutely love its look from the top. Can you see our little compartments we made adding all of it? We will for sure accent them later with some color for sure!
Time to get my acrylic paint and change a bit my wood pumpkin diy! My choices after I painted entire pumpkin white was to mix grey with cream and some light green.
Time to decorate our fall wood pumpkin !
As you can see all is covered with random strokes of color. Don’t you just love to play around with it and see where all will take you? Absolutely love fall crafting and all colors.. How about you?
Make sure to check video HERE on how I mixed all colors together! it was so much fun! Don’t you just love all those speckles on it? Super proud of it !
