Cucumber Salad – Polish Mizeria with Dill

This was my first favorite cucumber salad recipe—and it’s still my favorite. Cool, creamy, full of dill and memories. Super refreshing for any meal. Goes perfect with everything . Cucumber salad is called in Poland Mizeria

My mama taught me to make it just like this. She’d watch me season it with that worried look on her face—“You’re adding so much!”—but she always loved how it turned out.

She always said: Add twice more than you think is enough.”

This is my version of classic Polish mizeria, just the way she taught me.


Ingredients to make polish cucumber salad

✅ 2–3 medium cucumbers
✅ 1 large white or purple onion (optional but so good)
✅ ½ cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
✅ 1–2 tbsp fresh dill (or 1 tsp dried)
✅ Salt and black pepper to taste
✅ 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice for extra tang

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Cucumbers
    •    Peel them in stripes so some skin stays on.

Mama always said that’s where the vitamins are—and it adds color too!

2️⃣ Add Onion
    •    Thinly slice the onion and mix with cucumber.

3️⃣ Season Generously
    •    Add salt and black pepper.

Mama’s advice: “Add twice more than you think is enough!” Don’t be shy—it’s what makes it good.

4️⃣ Add Sour Cream and Dill
    •    Add sour cream (or Greek yogurt).
    •    Stir in chopped fresh dill.
    •    Add vinegar or lemon juice if you like a little tang.

And don’t skimp on the sour cream—it should coat everything nicely!

5️⃣ Mix and Serve
    •    Stir until well coated.
    •    Chill for 30–60 minutes if you can—it’s even better cold.
    •    Or serve right away!

Notes & Tips

⭐ Fresh dill is best, but dried works in a pinch.
⭐ If you want it less watery, salt the cucumbers first, let sit 10–15 minutes, then drain before mixing.
⭐ Perfect with steak, potatoes, BBQ, or any hearty dinner.
