Whimsical Stacked Pumpkin Topiary inspired by MacKenzie Childs
Are you ready to work on another topiary with me? Super fun project for sure! Well so I got this stacked pumpkins topiary at my thrift store for a buck not knowing that it was cracked. Not going to lie I was bummed but I love challenges. Absolutely love to work with items that have some issues. In this case I had no choice then paint so MacKenzie Childs inspired pumpkins were in my mind! Let’s make whimsical Stacked pumpkin painted topiary! Perfect fall centerpiece!
Not going to lie I am obsessed with pumpkins and topiaries.. They truly make awesome accents around the house . Check details on how I put all my leftover picks into use HERE
Supplies needed to make stacked pumpkin topiary
- stacked pumpkins
- white chalk paint
- black acrylic paint
- triple thick
- embellishments
Let’s work on our whimsical MacKenzie Childs inspired stacked fall pumpkin topiary centerpiece
As you can see there was a tiny crack on the bigger pumpkin so I had to put my spackle to work to camouflage and prevent from breaking.
It was a easy job to cover all but I needed to wait before applying a couple of coats of my chalk paint. Yes I could decoupage on it but I was on the mission to paint MacKenzie Childs pattern on it for my perfect fall diy
I so wanted to have few or decoupaged pumpkin topiaries but the one I was working on in this project was much bigger then the one I already have. Check full details HERE
Love its nice plain look now but as I was looking at my topiary I thought I will add one more pumpkin to it its stack. Foam pumpkin from Dollar Tree was perfect size to top all off. Had to cut a small opening on the bottom of it to fit over my painted topiary stem
MacKenzie Childs products are full of gorgeous patterns so I was on the mission to mix and match them in black and white. I decided to make a courtly check pattern on the bottom of my pumpkin topiary. Little draft with pencil and I was ready to paint. Make sure to watch video about how all was planned out below.
How to paint black and white pattern inspired by MacKenzie Childs
To keep things more interesting and make it a bit easier for me I decided to paint second pumpkin in my MacKenzie childs fall diy in stripes . Those were super easy since pumpkin sections were perfect
Third pumpkin was all about harlequin pattern which I adore! again a bit of pencil sketching that I explained in the video BELOW and I was ready to paint with black
Love me some dots so forth one was black and gold dots. Not good at it but hey you gotta keep trying.
Little bit of camouflaging with gold paint and my black parts were all ready to go. Let’s not forget about some dry brushing of white paint on the black parts to bring even some more dimension to my fall pumpkin MacKenzie childs fall topiary centerpiece diy
Time for embellishments !
Embellishments are my favorite part! Just because my topiary originally had a rope I had to bring some of matching one to whatever I made on it. So beads mixed with pearls were my choice. Little action with hot glue and my fall pumpkin centerpiece is starting to look better and put together
Well I had so much fun with it so I added another piece to my fall project. I added a finial as you can see in the catalogs with MacKenzie Childs centerpieces.
Final touches and I was ready for triple thick to protect my work and of course add a gorgeous shine.

Decided to add my terra cotta pot as its base to elevate it even more. How beautiful it looks with a nice greens around its base.
